(1) Chronically stressed mammals produce hormones called glucocorticoids, which can suppress certain immune-system and gonadal functions when the hormones remain elevated.(2) Fish were scored as intersexes when at least one of the gonads was an ovotestis or when one ovary and one testis were observed simultaneously.(3) Nutrition, exercise, gonadal steroids, and growth hormone and body composition all play a role in bone density.(4) Females develop an extrusion of the gonadal papilla and a distended abdomen when gravid.(5) As adults they lack appendages, segmentation, and all internal organs except gonads and the remains of the nervous system.(6) It is known as a gonadotrophic hormone as it affects the gonads (testes and ovaries) in mammals.(7) To compensate, internal organs such as the gizzard, gonads , and intestine may shrink.(8) For example, gonadotropins that are produced by the hypothalamic-pituitary gland stimulate secretion of gonadal steroids.(9) In birds and mammals, gonadal steroids can directly affect sensory functions, selective attention, persistence of attention, and have independent rewarding properties in the brain.(10) Whether the gonads become ovaries or testes is determined by the chromosomes received from the parents at the time of conception.
